It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Richard Oakley Coar (Bainbridge Island, Washington), who passed away on March 19, 2026, at the age of 93, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Edson Coar and Muriel Coar; his sister Elaine Cochran; his former wife Susan; and his daughter Peggy.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Toepel; and his children, Alan, Kenneth, Kathleen (Bob), Maryâ, Stephen (Cindi), Camy, Michael (Teresa) and Jim (Lisa). He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
In the pandemic year of 2020, Richard married Mary Toepel, standing on the back of a pick-up truck in the Bethany Lutheran Church parking lot as the service was broadcast to the attendees over their car radios.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to a favorite charity.
