She was predeceased by: her parents, Elmer Koski and Grace Koski (Hoikka); her son Dennis Gunther; and her brothers, Virgil, Charles and Allyn Koski.

She is survived by: her husband Bruce Nelson; her sister Patricia Hunnum; and her children, Deborah Beachboard, Dina Boggs, Thomas Guenther, Jacob Guenther and Darryl Guenther. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

In her memory, her family encourages friends and loved ones to honor her legacy by making a donation to a charity close to their hearts, just as Marlene would have done.
