She was predeceased by: her parents, Emma Nelson (Garret) and Lee Nelson; her stepson Richard "Dik"; her husband Clarence William "Bill" Mattson; her siblings, Aloha Nelson Atkins and George Schmidt; and her son Larry Benson.

She is survived by: her stepfather F. G. Schmidt (Mickey); her former husband Richard Benson; her daughter Sharon Vahlkamp; her son-in-law Dean Vahlkamp; her brother Fred Schmidt; her grandchildren, Teresa, Karl, Kendall, Lance, Julie, Jaimie and Susan; Mill.
