He is survived by : his wife Kay Annette Erbes; his children, Colleen McFarland, Michael McFarland and Heather Santiago (Pedro); and his brother Charles "Hap" McFarland. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

“In loving memory of Jon McFarland, Please accept our most heartfelt sympathies for your loss. As county commissioner, jon was my boss for 8 years. As a dayton kiwanian he was my friend for 35 years. Jon and I worked very well together on many civic and county projects. Jon was the spearhead of the Columbia County Transportaion system to obtain a grant of 250000 for startup fees. You will be missed my friend. I loved you for who you were and what you did for those in Columbia County.”
