He was predeceased by : his parents, Charles M. Kirkpatrick and Elsie Carlson Kirkpatrick; his wife Patricia; and his daughter Debbie Newell. He is survived by : his son Gary (Cathy) of Glendive, MT; his son-in-law Tom Newell of Hodges, MT; his daughter Candis (Tom Parker) of Billings, MT; his sister-in-law Ethel Lund of Carlyle, MT; and his grandchildren, Danielle (Ryan Burrows) of Laurel, MT, Jenny (Scott Ree) of Wibaux, MT, Jill (Shawn Wilcox) of Glendive, MT, Carl Newell, Carly (Kent Kahl) of Wibaux, MT, Calee (Todd Schlaebitz) of Port Orchard, WA and Lexi (Ricardo Aguilar) of Granite Falls, WA. He is also survived by 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

While at EMVH he was honored with a handmade Quilt of Valor by the local Quilters of Valor Foundation.
