It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Donald Leroy Schafer of Latah, Washington, who passed away on January 16, 2026, at the age of 94, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
Though Donald may no longer walk beside us, his memory will forever be enshrined in the fabric of the lives of those Donald touched, a beacon of light guiding us through the darkness. In his absence, his spirit lives on — a gentle whisper in the breeze, a ray of sunlight on a cloudy day, a reminder that love knows no boundaries.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Leslie Roy and Anna Marie Schafer (Erickson); his former wife Lylla Farrelly; his wife Hermoyne Helton (Miller); and his siblings, JoAnn Tornquist (Don) and Gary Schafer (Lynn).
He is survived by: his children, Sylvia Marshall (Douglas) of Spokane Valley, Shannon Martensen (Steven) of Latah, Jodi Schafer of Latah, Scott (Kelly) of Spokane and John (Karleen) of Latah. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren.
