Bob Mayo wrote a sympathy message

“I was saddened to learn of Russ's passing. He lived four doors down from me in good ol' Swayze Acres. He was a tad older than me so I looked up to him a bit. I have fond memories of the two of us biking down to Garrett Field together to play baseball in a pre-high school city league, building forts, and ... ah... smoking corn cob pipes and thinking we were cool. He was a good guy. Rest in peace, Russ. - Bob Mayo, Williamstown, Massachusetts”
