“Eleven years since she passed, yet I'll still share a memory of her impact on me many years ago. I'm reading through the New Testament at my church and came across the passages about Jesus' crucifixion this evening. I often remember my teacher, Mrs. Martin, at LaVenture middle school, when I come across this part of scripture. Before the intense division of church and state permeated the school system, she had the courage to include the book 'The Robe' as required reading for our class. It's amazing to think of that in a public school! Forty-plus years later, I remember the dramatic impact the story had on my pre-teen self, and am grateful for the teacher she was. I had no contact with Mrs. Martin over these many years, but was grateful for the google search technology that led me to this obituary and allowed me to read a bit about her life. A sweet saint! May her legacy live on in the lives she touched and the friends and family she loved.”
