He was predeceased by: his parents, Eileen (Oscar Peterson) and Tenneson; his sister Judy; his brother-in-law John Montoya; and his brother Stanton Peterson (Button).

He is survived by: his daughter Corey Peterson; his grandson Tyler Peterson; his daughter Holly (Fernando Perez); his grandsons, Emilio, Benicio and Salvador Perez; his brother Dennis (Mac); his former spouse Janne Peterson; and his close friend Shirley Scott. He is also survived by cousins, nieces and nephew.
