He was predeceased by : his parents, William Russel Shumate and Lila Vee Shumate (Weaver); and his grandparents, Lawrence, Violet Weaver, Charles and Jessie Shumate.

He is survived by : his siblings, Loren W. Shumate of Olympia, Linda D. (Shumate), Rounsley (Larry) of Olympia and Leisa A. (Shumate); his nephews, Timothy Flumerfelt, Nathanael Hill (Rachel) and Josiah Hill (Sarah); his great-nephew Silas Hill; and his nieces, Farren Lippl (Chris) and Tierney Butler.

Memorial donations may be made to the March of Dimes or Seattle Children's Hospital.
