He is survived by: his parents, Dwayne E. Harkness of Olympia and Alice T. Harkness (Schilter); his brothers, Luke A. Harkness (Angela) of Portland and Justin F. Harkness (Layla) of Austin, Texas; and his nieces and nephews, Hendrix, Lena, Llewyn, Henry and Vance.

He was awarded the Discovery Scholar distinction in recognition of USC undergraduates who have excelled academically while making a meaningful contribution to their field of study through exceptional new scholarship or artistic work.
