Lloyd Thorne wrote a sympathy message

“Marshall was my good friend. He was my first roommate at USNA. Never forget the day we met, We both laughed at ourselves many times after. We were together 4 years at NAVY and stayed as close as possible over the years even though separated by many miles and branches of the Armed Forces. Always ready to have fun and to help where he could. I was honored to be at his wedding to Rea in Portland many years ago. He will not be forgotten. Cherish the memories no one can take them away.”
