He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, David Alanson Graves and Celeste Raterman; his wife Marjorie Graf; his siblings, Diana Steinberg (Gary) and William Graves of Leisure City, FL; and his nieces, Jamie Tropeppi and Angela Pinto (Josh).

“Alan took me under his wing (Ok, really I was his cadet!) when I started volunteering on the S/S VIRGINIA V (the "V5") where Alan was one of the volunteer Chief Engineers. That was in 2002. 21 years of friendship later, I am so, so saddened by his passing. We shared a love of marine engineering and a love of the V5. He was one of my favorite people. I am very privileged to have called Alan, and his wonderful wife Marj, my friends. I will miss him. -Connie Buhl-”
