He was predeceased by: his parents, Ivernia C. Hunter and Wallace Alvin Hunter; his wife Ernestine Gray Hunter; his daughter Teressa Hunter Brown; and his siblings, Earlene Drayton (Seattle), Charles Hunter, Alva H. Smith, Q. Delores Hunter Sims and Dorothy Griffin.

He is survived by: his daughters, Dr. Patricia L. Hunter (Renee McCoy) and Cynthia Hunter; his grandchildren, C. Nathan Hunter Jones and Melinda Brown; and his great grandchild Donzell Crocket. He is also survived by many nieces and nephew, and a host of relatives and great friends.
