He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Schmelzle and Sharon Schmelzle (McCaughey); and his stepfather Greg Holthaus. He is survived by: his wife Justine Ozaki; his son Andy Schmelzle (Rachel); his grandson Sam Schmelzle; and his siblings, Kathy Rossmiller (Raymond), Mark Schmelzle (Robin), Susan Sanders (Bill), Lisa Barnes (Dane), Lynn Ehmen (Ryan) and Gail DeGreeff (Lou). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
