He is survived by: his wife Jean; his sister Carol Kazhakoff; his children, Chris Birkland and Leslie Bereiter; and his grandchildren, Mathew, Martha, Timothy, Nicholas, Spencer and Tyler. He is also survived by his 6 great-grandchildren; and his first great-great-grandchild.
