He was predeceased by: his nephew Roger Schmick. He is survived by: his wife Shirley Giffin; his sons, Gary (Jennifer), Jonathon and Marcus (Heather); his grandchildren, Marie Schmiller (Terra), Madilyn Newman, Julia Schmick, Austin Schmick, Sway Schmick and Addyson Schmick; and his siblings, Larry (Pat), David (Mary) and Rosemary Zook (Jim). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to be made to the American Diabetes Association.
