He was predeceased by: his parents, William Roy Scates and Hazel Zenna (Schwarz); his sisters, Orpha Jean, Maxine, Delores and Linda; his granddaughter Sunny; and his stepdaughter Debra.
He is survived by: his wife June (Rice); his sons, Neil (Shanna) and Jaya Relihan (Pat); and his stepchildren, Teresa Newcomb (Jeff) and Daniel Rice (Marie). He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, several nephews and nieces.
The family settled in Deer Park on 29 acres where he and June enjoyed 23 years together until Alzheimer's took him from us.
