Alvin (Al) Broeckel Obituary
Al Broeckel passed away on June 2nd at Tacoma General Hospital at the age of 87. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, June, and three siblings. He is survived by their daughter Janet (Vince), and grandsons Landry and Brady; their son John (Camille); and their daughter Jo Ann (Brian), and grandchildren Lauren and Aiden. Al was born to Arthur and Amelia Broeckel in a farmhouse near Dusty, WA. He and June attended school together in Lacrosse, WA and both graduated from Lacrosse HS in 1953. They were married on December 28, 1956 at Selbu Lutheran Church. Al graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 1960 and a Master’s degree in 1970, both in Education from Pacific Lutheran College (now PLU). His career as a teacher began in the DuPont School District where he taught 5th grade, reading, English, math, and PE. He then spent nearly 20 years teaching driver’s education at Clover Park HS. Over the course of his career, he mentored thousands of athletes as their coach in football, basketball, as well as track & field at Laughbon HS, Clover Park HS, Bethel HS, and Pacific Lutheran University. He made an indelible impact on the lives of those around him and he will be greatly missed.
A burial will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 2:00 PM at the Dusty Cemetery (Dusty Road, LaCrosse, Washington 99143). This will be immediately followed by a memorial service at the Country Bible Church in Dusty, WA. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the WSU Foundation or PLU.
