Maurice Orville Marx Obituary

Maurice Orville Marx, 72, went to sleep in death on January 20th, 2022 in Tacoma, Washington. Maurice was born September 21, 1949 in Norfolk, Virginia to George and Evelyn Marx, along with his fraternal twin brother Malcom. Maurice was born a fighter, weighing in just over two pounds requiring him to spend the first two months of his life in the hospital. Maurice was the fifth child of his large family of 16 children. At the age of six, his family moved to Washington from West Virginia. At the young age of 15, Maurice made the decision to quit high school to begin working to help his family financially due to his father having cancer.

Maurice worked for Howard Ladder Company for many years; when they downsized Maurice attended Renton Technical College to specialize in the Auto Industry. He exceled in the program receiving many honors and worked in the auto industry for several years. It was a great fit for him as he loved cars especially classic cars; his pride and joy was owning his 1950 Ford 5 window truck and 1949 Buick Coupe. in 1988, he began his career at Boeing, unfortunately he was injured on the job ending up with numerous surgeries leaving him with lifelong pain. Those around Maurice never knew how much pain he was in as he never complained even when it forced him to medically retire in 1999.

Maurice was a loving father, husband, grandfather, brother and friend to everyone. Maurice was known for his infectious laugh, he was always the first one to laugh at his own jokes and lit up a room when he entered. He was kind, giving, loving and full of integrity, he was a beautiful example to his family and friends. Maurice spent many hours playing with his grandchildren which he loved dearly. He played Uno or Yahtzee whenever the opportunity would arise. Maurice enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. One of his favorite activities was having breakfast with his "cronies" where they would share stories and tease each other. Maurice loved dancing, camping and home improvement projects. Maurice always made time to help others especially the elderly, he would go above and beyond to ensure the elderly were cared for. He was a phenomenal husband, father and grandfather showing his love for all of them. You could always count on him to call or text you to check on you and to say he loved you.

Maurice symbolized his dedication to his Creator, Jehovah God by baptism on January 21, 1995 at the Puyallup Assembly Hall. Maurice served in multiple congregations including Auburn, Pacific and most recently Swan Creek Park Congregation. He was well known for his encouraging heartfelt comments, his warm smile, life stories and meeting bag filled with candy. Maurice lived his life following the principles he taught others from the Bible. He served as a full-time pioneer for 5 years preaching the good news of the kingdom. Maurice was appointed as an Elder in 2015 and cherished his role to shepherd the congregation of God.

Maurice is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Sharen, sons Brian (Lisa) Marx, Michael (Cathy) Marx, Maurice Jr (Iris) Marx, Matthew (Heidi) Marx, daughters Michelle Dunn, Stacey (David) Long, Shelly Marx and Jennifer (Jesse) Hornbuckle, and many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, siblings and extended family. Maurice was preceded in death by his parents, George and Eva, siblings Ramen, John, Karen, Marilyn, Sissy and Abby, his grandson Shane and great granddaughter Nami.

We know Maurice is safe in Jehovah's memory as we eagerly look forward to seeing the fulfillment of John 5:28-29 where Maurice will be resurrected to life, and we get to see him again and hear his laugh. This is his hope and he wants it to be your hope as well as he awaits to be woken from sleep.
