He was loved and cherished by many people including : his father Robert Mitchell Stevens; his wife Carol; his daughter Donna (Dennis Montgomery); his grandchildren, Trevor and Allison; his daughter Maurena Chestnut of Olympia; and his siblings, Robert (Lois) of Laurel Ridge, Georgia and Nancy Bell of San Pedro, California. He was also cherished by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Before the pandemic, Hiram said he wanted the song "Amazing Grace" played with a bagpipe at his memorial.
