He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmer Kauppi and Mildred Kauppi; and his brother David Kauppi. He is survived by: his granddaughter Anne; his wife Joan Kauppi; his children, Christine Ice, Greg Kauppi and Anne Anderson; his grandchildren, Jenna Hori, Alyssa Dinsmore, Jon Anderson and Jeffrey Anderson; and his great grandchildren, Emi, Aki and Mina Hori.
