He was predeceased by: his parents, Everett Appling and Ovie Appling (Hass); his son Ronald Appling; his brothers, Ernest Appling and Robert Appling; and his sister-in-law Laurie Jo Appling (Johnnie Martinez).
He is survived by: his wife Alcenia Appling; his children, Karen Hand (David) of Ephrata, WA and Raymond Jr. (Robin) of Yakima, WA; his siblings, Donald Appling (Christine) of Arizona, Harold Appling of Arizona and Donna Pack (James) of Texas; his sister-in-law Faye Appling of Stockton, CA.; and his grandchildren, Stacy Lyon (Brian) of Ephrata, WA, Rebecca Kurdziel (Kevin) of Ephrata, WA, Bert Hand of Ephrata, WA, RaeShelle "Stink" Hand (Paul Treiber) of Ephrata, WA, RaeAnna "Hobo" Butterfield (Brian) of Ephrata, WA, Sierra "Nimrod" Appling (Brandon Williams) of Ephrata, WA, Shayla "Incabod" Appling (Derrick Vernon) of Ephrata, WA, Katie Ward (Matt) of Lake Tapps, WA, Alec Pease (Haylie) of Yakima, WA, John-Paul Pease (Alexandra) of Portland, OR, Alyssa Maughn of Spokane and Gabriel (Hipple). He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
