He was predeceased by : his parents, Orvie Thornby (Gehler) and Layton Thornby; his stepfather Nels Hanson; his mother-in-law Loretta Sullivan; and his brother Lynn Thornby.

He is survived by : his wife Susan Thornby; his children, Jeff Thornby (Sally), Jamie DeHusson (Mark), Kurtis Thornby and Tyler Thornby; his grandchildren, Maddie DeHusson and Caleb Manor; his sisters, Mary Zulke (Marty) and Bonnie Freeberg; and his sisters-in-law, Mary Anderson, Catherine Sullivan and Rose Geist. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

“I am so grateful that Roger attended Gehler get together at Brenholt's. Guessing it had been around 50 years since I had seen Roger so was great to hear him talk about his family. I do remember us driving from Sand Creek to New Richmond to visit the Thornby's so many years ago. My sympathy to all of the family and friends for your loss. Cherish the many memories. Dennis Gehler”
