He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Achterberg and Josephine Achterberg (Pauly); his former wife Dee Dee Achterberg; his brothers, Steve and Ronnie Achterberg; and his niece Jennifer Laux.

He is survived by: his brothers, Glenn Achterberg, Mike Achterberg and Ken Achterberg; his sister-in-law Lynn Hendricks (Sherry Gleason); and his caregiver Ken Bixby. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
