He was loved and cherished by many people including: his siblings, Fred, Steve and Arlene; his grandparents, Clark and Florence Roper; his daughters, Tara and Carmen; and his granddaughter Kira Smith. He was also cherished by his two youngest siblings.

Don Smith (known to his family as "Mighty Don Smith the Great" and to many others as "Captain") died on May 25, 2022, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.
