He was predeceased by: his father Harold Hartman; his daughter Sara; his son-in-law Darrell Ewing; and his siblings, Phil, Mildred and Marjorie.

He is survived by: his wife Joan Hartman; his children, Melinda Klemetson (Larry), Dorinda Smith (Rick), Michael Hartman (Margaret Nyland), Jennifer Blank (Jason), Jill Peachy (Tony Wild) and Elizabeth Luebke (Tyler); and his brothers, Raymond and Jim. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
