He was predeceased by: his parents, Frances Mentzel and Donald Mentzel Sr.; his brother Fred Mentzel; his father-in-law Clayton Gorges; and his brother-in-law Tom Carmody.

He is survived by: his wife Cindy Mentzel; his children, Jeremy Mentzel (Penny), Jason Mentzel (Amy U'Ren) and Renee Junius (Reese); his grandchildren, Noah and Sophie; his mother-in-law Anna Gorges; his siblings, Chuck (Joann Miner), Dick Mentzel and Bonnie Guyette (Dan); and his siblings-in-law, Barb Mentzel, Mike Gorges, Sandy Hartjes (David) and Brenda Gorges. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Monetary donations will be gifted to St. Thomas More Parish.
