He was predeceased by: his parents, John Gurske and Lorraine Gurske (Shubert); and his wife Cathy Stadler. He is survived by: his sister Gwen Jellish (Jim); his nieces, Pamela, Jennifer (Dave) and Mandy (Jordan); his nephew Ross; his brother-in-law Frank (Jane); and his close friends, Tony (Miranda), Tom (Mary), John C. and John P.. He is also survived by four grandnieces and one grandnephew; one great-grandniece and one great-grandnephew.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a local humane society or by planting a tree in Gary's name, in honor of the life he lived.
