He was predeceased by: his son David; his parents, Frank Engel and Cecilia Engel (Amend); his siblings-in-law, Ernest and Antoinette Modl; his brothers, George Engel and John; and his siblings-in-law, Dottie Engel and Norbert Giesen.
He is survived by: his wife Lucille Modl; his sister Dorothy Giesen; his children, Mary Jean Roovers (Karl), Mark Engel (Lynn) and Steven Engel; his grandchildren, Emily Roovers (Adam Geiser), Elizabeth Roovers, Samantha Roovers (Tom Johnson), Christian Roovers (Caitlin), Faustine Engel, Miles Engel, Laura Looker (AJ) and Gabrielle Engel (John Luke Parlow); and his great grandchildren, Isabelle Cherny, Arlo Geiser, Micah Shields, Koda Shields, Cassidy Roovers, Waverly Roovers, Teagan Engel, Finnean Looker, Elliott Looker and Griffin Looker. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
