He is survived by: his wife Judy (Gruetzmacher); his son Joseph A. Van Handel (Cari); his grandchildren, Ethan J. and Rose J. Van Handel; his daughter Jessica J. Zitzelsberger (Brett); his grandchildren, Addisyn B. and Aubree L. Zitzelsberger; his siblings-in-law, Ronald E. Gruetzmacher (Vicki), Kenneth J. Gruetzmacher (Terri), Beverly J. Huettl (Gary) and Diane M. Sullivan (Dan); his close friends, Tom Bolwork (Mary), Steve Holmes, Hank Plautz (Jody), Kirby Cartwright, Matt Wheeler and Warren Johnson (Sue); Amanda. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, friends, cousins.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established.
