He was predeceased by: his parents, Arnold Velie and Bernice Velie (Miller); and his brother David Velie. He is survived by: his wife Alice Nau; his children, Daniel Velie (Wendy), Michael Velie (Jane), Christine (Robert), Nicholas Velie (Chelsea), Kaitlin Velie (Michael Waters), Jessica Velie, Jacob Velie, Jonathan Velie, Willem, Ella and Ian; his great grandchild Barrett; and his brothers, Jerry and Terry Velie.
