He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert North and Alice North. He is survived by: his wife Ruth; his children, Jeff North (Deb), Lorrie Marling (Kurt) and Karen Maher; his grandchildren, Greg Meyer (Tammy), Adam North (Lindsay), Ryan North, Andrea Meyer, Bradley North (Heather), Geneva Porter (Nicholas) and Joseph Maher (Jessica); his great grandchildren, Max, Henry, Lilly, Ginny, Chloe, Kaylee, Anthony, Jack, Carly and Lily; and his brother Dale North (Beth).

When the dark days of the pandemic hit, Merle and Ruth's bubble included grandson Greg, granddaughter in law Tammy and great granddaughter Chloe.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Wildlife Federation in memory of Merle North.
