He was predeceased by: his parents, R. Wayne Smith and Dorothy Joyce Smith (Pope); his parents-in-law, Neil Rempel and Hilda Rempel; and his brother-in-law Michael Richardson.

He is survived by: his wife Susan Joy Rempel; his daughters, Elizabeth of Beloit, Emily of Beloit and Abigail of Beloit; his siblings, Lauraine Smith (Footville), Sandra Smith (Elkhorn), Linda Richardson (Tennessee), Jeanne [Alan] Smith-Corlett (Lake Mills), Cheryl [John] Douglas (Illinois), Suzanne Smith (Footville), DJ [Rich] Link (Arizona), James [Amy] Smith and David [Vickie] Smith; and his siblings-in-law, Gaylene [Dale] Engelbrecht (Rockton), Kathryn [Terry] Jardonek (Ohio), Mark [Brenda] Rempel (Arizona) and John [Sara] Rempel (Kiel). He is also survived by nephews, and a great many great-nieces and great-nephews.

But the ones that stand out are United Way, where he was on the board for a period of time, and the RSVP group, for which he was on the board at the time of his passing.
