He was predeceased by: his parents, John Jackson and Myrie Bell Adams (Williams); and his siblings, Jackson Sylvester, Luke, William Adams, Arlilla Adams-Wilson, Arlevia Adams, Essie Adams and Sallie Adams.

He is survived by: his son-in-law Frank; his brother-in-law Clyde; his nephew Roger; his wife Peggy; his daughter Yolanda James (Frank); his grandchildren, Caleb James (Rafaela) and Miah Cottingham (Darius); his great grandchildren, Cameron James and Cataleya James; his siblings, John Adams (Selma), Matthew Adams (Ida) and Ada Adams; and his sister-in-law Almer Adams of Virginia.
