He was predeceased by: his parents, Melvin Wartner and Betty Wartner (Steckbauer); his brother Robert Wartner; his parents-in-law, Harold and Phoebe McCrea; and his brothers-in-law, Gary McCrea, Johnny McCrea, Jack Burlage and Jim Sysko.
He is survived by: his wife Renee Wartner of Benton, WI; his siblings, Cindy Wartner of Port Washington, WI and David Wartner (Becky Calles) of La Crosse, WI; and his sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Burlage of Kieler, WI, Myrna Sysko of Benton, WI, Marie Keleher (Dave) of Cambridge, WI, Michelle Hendricks (Tim) of Dodgeville, WI and Marlene McCrea of Benton, WI. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He served on the school board, was a village board trustee, a member of the Benton Community Foundation and a member of St. Patrick’s Church choir.
