She was predeceased by: her parents, Marvin Carpenter and Alice Carpenter (Johnson); her husband Clifford Hardel; her children, Daniel Hardel, Judy Tetzke and Patti Lewellyn; and her daughters-in-law, Teresa Hardel and Connie Hardel.

She is survived by: her children, David Hardel (Donna), Mark Hardel and Cathy Herbst (Jeff); her son-in-law Allen Tetzke; her siblings, Beverly Kurtz, Richard Carpenter (Michelle), Roger Carpenter, Keith Carpenter (Vicky) and Nancy Chase; and her siblings-in-law, Ken Kurtz, Donald Chase and Sally Carpenter. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren.

A memorial has been established in memory of Joan.
