He was predeceased by: his parents, Alvin Zabel and Adeline Zabel; his sister Dorothy Schultz; his parents-in-law, Vernon and LaVerne Olver; and his sisters-in-law, Barbara Zabel, Lois Zabel, Carol Simonis and Suzanne Cassel.

He is survived by: his wife Linda Zabel; his daughters, Sonja Goodchild (Joe Kuntner) of Mukwonago, Melissa "Missy" Zabel of Fort Atkinson and Gwen Zabel of Milwaukee; his grandchildren, Ashlynn, Brooklyn, Kaylin Goodchild, Riley, Silas and Callum Zabel; his brothers, Robert Zabel of Oconto Falls and Roland Zabel of Watertown; and his brothers-in-law, Wallace Olver (Kathy) of Mukwonago, Wayne Olver of Abbotsford and Larry Simonis (Karen). He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
