Susan C. Hunter Obituary
Susan Conway Hunter, 79, longtime resident of Brookfield, Wisconsin, passed away September 10th, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Susan was a devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend whose generosity, kindness, and service touched everyone who knew her. She is survived by her husband, William; her children, Chris, Ethan, Rachel, Erin, and Eileen; and her 11 grandchildren.
Sue attended St. Josaphat and Holy Apostles parish schools, New Berlin High School, and Milwaukee County General Hospital School of Nursing, where she graduated as a registered nurse. Following graduation, Sue worked at Sage Nursing Home, the Virginia Tech Student Health Center, the Milwaukee Protestant Home, and St. John's on the Lake. She focused her calling as a nurse in geriatric care. She treated the whole person, working to maintain dignity in the golden years of their life. She deeply valued the relationships she developed with the residents she took care of. Her longtime service to others extended well beyond her professional life, something that she passed on to all of her children.
Though Sue was completely content with a cup of coffee on her back patio, she grew to enjoy accompanying her husband and indulging his adventurous side through travel. Together they often traveled in the US, frequenting New York, Maine, Arizona and Florida. They flew even further, meeting friends in London and visiting Belgium and Puerto Rico.
Sue had a beautiful tenor voice and loved singing in the church choir and occasional jazz bar. Baking was her love language. When she didn't know what to say, she would bake. She taught her grandkids how to bake and loved singing carols while baking Christmas cookies. Sue was happiest outside, mostly barefoot, chatting on her porch swing with a glass of wine. She loved to garden and watch the birds eat from her feeders next to her statue of St Francis. Sue enjoyed golfing and many celebrations at Westmoor Country Club.
Sue's greatest legacy is the love she shared with her family and friends. Her kindness, her faith, and her open invitation to all for family holidays will live on in those who loved her.
Visitation is at Schmidt and Bartelt Funeral Home on September 20th from 3-5pm, followed by a celebration of Sue's life at Maggiano's Little Italy at 5:30. Catholic Mass of Christian Burial at St Mary's of Elm Grove September 22nd at 11am. Private burial to follow.
