He was predeceased by: his parents, Andrew A. Rueter and Margaret C. Rueter (Warren); his wife Marilynn Rueter of Mary's Church; his siblings, Jean Winkler (Ollie), Joan Bercher and John M. Rueter; his parents-in-law, Harold Krien and Agnes Krien Reesman; his stepfather-in-law Albert Reesman; and his siblings-in-law, Paul, Nancy Krien and Thomas Krien.
He is survived by: his children, Julie M. Dexter (Timothy), James A. Jr. (Debra), Steven J. (Lisa) and Daniel E. (Amy); his grandchildren, Amy Devall (Vince), Keith Dexter (Sara), Jeffrey Rueter (Marci), Jennifer Schenning (Karl), Kristen Hegemann (Josh), Katie VanBeckum (Justin), Kellen Rueter (Kaitlyn), Danielle Schmidt (Bob), Nolan, Alison Kresken (Cole), Abbie Wehner (Ross) and Kasey Jordan (Mack); his great grandchildren, Remi, Hailey Dexter, Skylar, Teagan Devall, Landon, Nora, Maddie Rueter, Otto Schenning, Cameron, Brynlee Hegemann, Levi, Lincoln VanBeckum, Wesley, Eli Schmidt, Bryce, Claire, Cate Wehner, Ella, Maggie and Hallie Jordan; and his sister-in-law Patricia Kranz (Gene Hafermann). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
