He was predeceased by: his parents, Milton Hallingstad and Lanona Hallingstad; and his brother Charles Hallingstad. He is survived by: his wife Susan Wrixton; his son Derek Hallingstad (Alma); his grandsons, Zach Hallingstad, Clark Hallingstad and Eli Hallingstad; and his brother Dennis Hallingstad of Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St Jude Children's Research Hospital or Tunnels to Towers.
