Caroline left this world on January 14, 2026 at the age of 99, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. She was predeceased by: her parents, LeRoy Gilles and Margaret Gilles (George); and her sisters, Norma Gerrits, Ruth Falter (Hofkes), Joyce Grosklaus and Eileen Moore.
She is survived by: her children, Dave Backhaus (Cindy), Brenda Nennig (Jim) and Lynn Schneider; her siblings, Dorine Roberts, Donnie Gilles, Jerry Gilles (Kathy), Dick Gilles (Carol), Denny Gilles (Marlene) and Sharon Bormet (Joe); and her close friend Bev Buchanan. She is also survived by 6 Grandchildren, 4 Step Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren.
