He was predeceased by : his father John Ertel; his siblings, Roger Ertel, Penny Ertel and Marylouise Tershner (Ertel); and his nephew Sean Ertel.

He is survived by : his former life partner Carol Jocis; his wife Linda Hulbert (Reinl); his daughters, Melissa Bauer (Todd) and Shelley Billmeier (Ertel); his grandchildren, Urban, Lincoln, Easton, Maximilian and Marceline; his stepchildren, Tyler Hulbert, Jennifer Eder (Fred), Daniel Hulbert (Tara), Gabriel Hulbert (Kerstin), Andrew Hulbert (Aimee) and Noah Hulbert (Stephanie); his brother David Ertel; and his former life partner Carol Schroeder (Gary).

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Tim's name.
