Walter Edwin Alf Jr. Obituary
Walter (Wally) E. Alf Jr., age 79, of Colgate, Wisconsin passed away on July 25, 2026. He was born in Berlin, Wisconsin, to Walter Sr. and Runette (Brechlin) Alf. Wally married his high school sweetheart, Janice M. Lane. Following high school graduation, Wally attended the Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) from which he received a degree in Electrical Computer Technology in 1967. That same year he was recruited by the Milwaukee branch of NCR (National Cash Register) and spent the next year in Dayton, Ohio attending NCR University. He was drafted into the army in 1968 and spent six months in Tennessee and 1 ½ years in Germany. He then returned to his job at NCR as a Field Engineer in the Milwaukee area where he worked for the next 34 years. After leaving NCR he began working as a Mail Processing Equipment Mechanic for the United States Postal Service, a job he held until his retirement.
Wally had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting all types of game and trap shooting. He belonged to the Daniel Boone Conservation League and the Neosho Gun Club. He was a devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Milwaukee Brewers. He also enjoyed watching WWE wrestling and classic Westerns. Wally is survived by his wife of 58 years, Janice; children Stefanie (Thomas) Czoschke, Michele (David) Gosetti, and Jason (Lisa) Alf; grandchildren Katelyn, Tyler, Paige, Nicole, Elijah, and Emma; brother Donald Alf; brother-in-law Harold "Butch" Dowell; niece Tammy, and nephew Shawn; sister-in-law Kathleen Dickerson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Sr. and Runette; an infant brother; his sisters, Carol Alf and Diane (Alf) Dowell; sister-in-law, Susan (Dunnigan) Alf; and brother-in-law Lawrence (Larry) Dickerson.
A memorial service will be held on August 8, 2026 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, W156N8131 Pilgrim Road, Menomonee Falls, WI 53051. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00a.m.. The service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Military Funeral Honors following the service and lunch to be served at the church. Everyone is welcome. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Froedtert Hospital Foundation (Grace Clinic), 9200 W. Wisconsin Avenue, Milwaukee, WI 53226 or Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
