He was predeceased by : his parents, Elizabeth "Betty" Mary (Dumas) and Charles "Charlie" Edward Hayes. He is survived by : his wife Jean; his sons, Justin and Nick; his grandsons, Charles and Harlan; his siblings, Tom Hayes (Donna), Gary Hayes (Nancy) and Nancy; and his pet Marco. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews; and numerous good friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to Clean Wisconsin or to the Southern Wisconsin Bird Alliance.
