He was predeceased by: his parents, James Bauer Sr. (Kathy Brice) and Debbie Schlozen (Joseph); his grandparents, Alphonse, Eunice Bauer, Grover and Marguerite Massie; his uncles, Alphonse Bauer, Ronald Bauer and Gerald Bauer; his aunt Darlene Falkner; and his pet Harley.

He is survived by: his wife Alissa K Bauer; his children, Ashlynne Bauer-Leidig, Breanne, Addelynne Bauer and Hunter Bauer; his stepson Colton Ingram; his sister Ashley Vos (John); his niece Kate Vos; his father-in-law David Estenson (Janet); and his sister-in-law Stacy Estenson. He is also survived by many Aunts, Uncles and cousins, and numerous friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in James's honor to Trinity Equestrian Center located in Eau Claire County.
