He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Oberle and Irene Oberle (Wolske); his wife Shirley; his son Paul; and his siblings, James, Jerene, Anita and Charles.

He is survived by: his daughters, Debra Hofmann (Joe) of Eau Claire and Laura Sabelko (Carl) of Eau Claire; his grandchildren, Miranda Hofmann (Brian Kopp) of Madison, Quintin Sabelko of Eau Claire and Nolan Sabelko of Eau Claire; and his sister Susan Lecheler (Dean) of Menomonie. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
