He was predeceased by : his parents, Royander Schmitz and Doris Schmitz (Petrick); his former life partners, Judith Schmitz and Bonnie Schmitz; his brother Richard Schmitz; his grandson Harry (Dorothy Braford); and his stepfather Emil Hass.
He is survived by : his wife Jill Dietrich; his children, Thomas Schmitz (Staci), Julie Schalk, Shawn Schmitz, Nicole Schmitz, Jennifer Burns and Steven Schmitz (Leah); his grandchildren, Zachary Schmitz, Dustin Schmitz, Jonathan Schalk (Jordyn), Garrett Schalk (Christina), Liam Schalk (Emily Williams), Parker Schmitz (Sebastian Meyer), Makaila Dorn, Joseph Burns, Kelsi Schmitz, Ivy Schmitz and Ruby Schmitz; and his siblings, Michael Schmitz, Sharon Huck (Bill), Rose Steiner and Larry Schmitz. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren.
