He was predeceased by: his parents, William Mitchell and Viola Mitchell; his former wife Eleanore Zauner; and his siblings, Jean, Doris and William.

He is survived by: his children, Robin Mitchell of Milwaukee and Brian "Scott" Mitchell (Kris) of St. Peter; his close friend Eileen Buehrens (Lac) of Fond; and his grandchildren, Erica, Heather, Joseph, Kaitlyn, Tara, Tyler, Parker, Sawyer, MaKenna, Crosby, Aleigha and Kennedy. He is also survived by ten great granddaughters.
