Josef Scherer Obituary

Born July 19, 1931 in Yugoslavia, passed on April 3, 2022 at home in Germantown.

Dearly beloved husband of the late Annamarie, cherished father of Joanne and David (Lana) Scherer, the ultimate Opa to David (Kiley), Michael, William and Ben Walter, and doting great-grandfather to Olivia Scherer. Special brother to Maggie (the late Bill) Luehrs and John Scherer, brother-in-law to Rosina (the late Tony) Hirth, Josef (Henrietta) Hirth, Margaret (the late George) Geib, Katherine (the late John) Bako, many dear nieces and nephews, family and friends everywhere he went.

Also preceded by his parents, Frank and Magdelena, nieces Natalie Luehrs, Lisa Hirth and nephew Gary Hirth.

Josef was a founding member of Milwaukee Sport Club in 1953 and was inducted into the Wisconsin Soccer Hall of Fame in 2000. He enjoyed a career of more than 40 years at Rohn Metal Fabricating, and was an avid member of the Tricounty YMCA in Menomonee Falls. There was no bigger fan at his grandson's many sporting and other events, and most recently at any activity with Olivia. He was a proud US Citizen and shared the bounty of his kitchen and garden with everyone.

Visitation Thursday, April 7, 2022 from 4:00 -7:00 PM at Schmidt and Bartelt Funeral Home, N84 W17937 Menomonee Ave in Menomonee Falls. A second visitation Friday, April 8th from 10:00 AM until time of Mass at 11:00AM at St. Boniface Catholic Church, W204 N11940 Goldendale Rd in Germantown. Procession to Resurrection Cemetery for committal prayers and interment to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Milwaukee Sport Club in support of youth soccer appreciated.
